Scaling with Confidence – How Hokben Transformed Webstore Reliability with AWS & DevOps

PT Eka Bogainti, known as HokBen, is a leading Japanese-style fast-food restaurant chain in Indonesia. With nationwide presence, HokBen continues to grow its digital footprint to serve customers efficiently across Java, Bali, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, and Sumatra.

Task

HokBen’s webstore ran on a manually managed EC2 instance with no auto-scaling, leading to frequent downtime during peak events. Manual AMI updates and deployment processes slowed response times, creating bottlenecks in scaling, operations, and customer experience.

  • Strategy

HokBen adopted AWS ECS for containerized deployment, supported by a fully automated CI/CD pipeline using CodePipeline, CodeBuild, and CodeDeploy. Terraform was used for IaC, and CloudWatch enabled real-time monitoring, ensuring resilient, scalable, and efficient infrastructure management.

  • Benefits

Deployment time improved from 1 hour to 8 minutes. With containerization and Blue/Green deployment, HokBen achieved enhanced reliability, scalability, and faster rollbacks. Operational cost savings were realized, while development agility increased—empowering faster innovation and better service delivery.
